Indeed, in a recent issue of the Naya Dishabodh, Prachanda is quoted as saying: “Our new strategy is to mobilise the party workers in the east to look westward and those in the west to look eastward…so that we can climb on the back of the giant and hit its head.”
It is now clear that the Maoists have used the ceasefire period to develop the capacity to make headline-grabbing attacks in or around Kathmandu. However, the leaders say the threat on Kathmandu is a deterrence in case the army decides to crack down on the parties.
Before concluding, Comrade Biplab wanted to make sure one message got through: “The moment the king cracks down on the parties and civil society our army will march on Kathmandu.”

With elections intended (by the king) to take place in February, but a 7-days bandh from Feb 5-12 already announced by the Maoists who want to sabotage those elections in any way that they can, I think those of you who are planning a stay in Nepal in the next couple of weeks ought to be well aware of what's going on politically.
And it seems to me that in the mountains you may be safer than if things would really go wrong in the Ktm Valley. Nobody can predict what will happen exactly and if (a lot of) violence will be involved. But it's better to be safe than sorry, and therefore imo it's important to stay well informed of what's happening in Nepal in view of politics and current developments in the civil war.
